ABC Supply Founder Ken Hendricks Dies After Fall at HomeKen Hendricks, the founder, chairman and CEO of ABC Supply Co., the sixth-biggest pro dealer in America, died early Friday, Dec. 21, after suffering a head injury as a result of a fall at a construction site at his home, ABC announced. He was 66. Funeral services will take place Friday, Dec. 28, in Janesville, Wis. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. ABC Supply is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. The Beloit, Wis., firm created by Hendricks and his wife Diane has grown from three supply centers in 1982 to nearly 400 centers in 46 states. It reported nearly $2.6 billion in sales last year, 96% of them to pros, putting it No. 6 on the ProSales 100. According to a company history on ABC Supply's Web site, Hendricks learned the roofing and siding business from his father in Janesville, Wis. At 17, he dropped out of school to take a job driving a truck for a power company, and at age 21 he started a roofing business that became one of the largest in the nation. According to a bio on ABC's Web site, Hendricks' frustration dealing with multiple suppliers scattered around the country led him in 1982 to create a national distribution chain--ABC Supply. Hendricks was named the Ernst & Young "Entrepeneur of the Year" in 1987, and just this year ABC Supply was one of only 12 companies in the world to receive the "Gallup Great Workplace Award." Aside from ABC Supply, Hendricks also controlled Hendricks Development Group and Corporate Contractors.
